Intel Atom Prozessoren sind sehr sparsame Prozessoren die in Netbooks, kleineren Notebooks und in Mini-Servern eingesetzt werden. Atom Prozessoren, die mit einem E beginnen sind für den privaten Gebrauch gedacht und verfügen über eine interne Grafikkarte. Sie verfügen über physikalische 1-4 Kerne und unterstützen DDR3 Low Voltage So-Dimms.
Die neue Atom C-Serie ist hingegen für den Einsatz in Miniservern bzw. Webservern gedacht, Intel Atom C Prozessoren können bis zu 8 physikalische CPU-Kerne bereitstellen, aber wie die E-Serie für den privaten Gebrauch verfügen alle Intel Atom Prozessoren nicht über die Hyperthreading Technologie. Der schnellste 8-Kern Intel Atom C2750 soll ca. halb so schnell wie ein Intel Xeon 1220 v3 sein bei einem Viertel der Energieaufnahme.
Die Intel Atom C-Serie unterstützt erstmalig bis zu 4 Module mit je 16GB, ingesamt also 64GB DDR3-1333 Arbeitsspeicher was in einer Speicherbandbreite von 25,3GB/s resultiert.
Entgegen Intel Celeron und Intel Pentium Prozessoren, die auf der aktuellen Intel Core i-Serie basieren, sind die Intel Atom Prozessoren eigenständige Entwicklungen.
